Acid saliva is a problem that is always good to investigate as it is often guilty of cavities and other problems of the oral cavity. So let’s find out the causes and possible remedies.
When we talk about acid saliva we mean a situation in which the pH of the saliva is precisely acid.
This is a more common condition in men but can also occur in women.
In both cases, the risk is to encounter oral problems such as tooth decay or weakening of the teeth. For this reason it is a condition that should be investigated in order to find possible solutions .
Sour saliva: the causes
When you have a sour mouth, there can be a variety of causes. In general, the most common are an incorrect diet or gastrointestinal problems such as gastroesophageal reflux. They are also associated with high levels of stress and an uneven lifestyle. In some cases, acidic mouth can also present itself in the case of pregnancy .
In case of doubts about it or of continuous problems such as caries without a precise underlying reason, it may be useful to contact an expert doctor able to detect the acidity in the mouth in order to find a suitable solution to mitigate the problem.
Sour saliva: the simplest remedies to put into practice
When you suffer from acidic saliva and acidosis you can experience unpleasant symptoms such as a metallic taste in the mouth. Also for this reason, once the problem has been found, the dentist will try to find a remedy.
As already mentioned, the first thing to do is to take care of the diet as much as possible by changing the type of food. This can be combined with a healthier lifestyle to which you can combine a toothpaste designed specifically to make saliva less acidic.
Going to natural remedies, infusions based on sage, basil or rosemary are useful to be added, in extreme cases, with a teaspoon of bicarbonate. Obviously, as always, a continuous attention to oral hygiene will be added to all this.
