Our grandmothers, in fact, used it to thin the phlegm and calm the fat cough, just like we use pharmaceutical syrups. Unlike the latter, however, vinegar has very few side effects. Apple cider vinegar: healing properties
The vinegar prepared with apples is rich in minerals , especially potassium and calcium, but also phosphorus, copper, iron, magnesium, sulfur and fluorine. It also contains B vitamins , beta carotene, vitamins A, C and E.
Thanks to the presence of acetobacter , a microorganism similar to the bacteria of the intestinal flora, it helps fight bacterial infections and raise the immune system. Finally, pectin regulates the acidity of the stomach and thins the mucus.
Apple cider vinegar: how to take it against cough
Thanks to vitamins and acetobacter, vinegar has antibacterial and antiviral properties , which make it a valid natural remedy for coughs and colds. It helps, in fact, to thin the phlegm and calm the cough.
To free the closed airways , suffimiges are excellent, to be done with a saucepan half full of water and the other half full of vinegar. The vapors should be breathed in for a few minutes, bringing the head close to the pot and covering it with a towel.
For coughs, on the other hand, it is recommended to drink a glass of water with a tablespoon of vinegar and one of honey , or to gargle with a tablespoon of vinegar, dissolved in half a glass of water.
Apple cider vinegar: contraindications
Vinegar has few contraindications, but they should not be underestimated. First, excessive use can cause gastritis , especially in predisposed individuals. Also, this food is bad for the thyroid if you suffer from hyperthyroidism , because it speeds up the metabolism.
