How to wax: the most effective methods to try

Home waxing

It is not necessary to go to the beautician to wax. Let’s see what are the best methods, hot and cold, to make it at home.

Homemade waxing is a valid alternative to that made by the beautician. Of course, you need to practice a little to get professional results, but considering the saving of time and money, it is worth trying!

There are different types of wax to use at home , some hot, some cold. Let’s see which are the most effective and easy to use, even if you are not an expert.

How to wax hot

Hot wax is the one used in beauty centers. It is certainly the most effective hair removal method, because it adheres well to hair and removes it from the root without breaking it, thanks to the action of heat, which opens the pores.

However, if you’ve never tried waxing yourself , it’s probably not the right method for you, because it’s the most difficult. The wax (to be purchased in the perfumery, in the supermarket or in shops specializing in the sale of products for beauticians) must be heated on the special stove, or in a water bath. You must then let it cool down a bit before applying it.

Using the stove, the temperature remains constant, while in a water bath it is more difficult and you risk making the wax cool too much or, on the contrary, making it become too hot and burned.

The wax is then applied to the area to be depilated with a spatula, following the direction of hair growth. Once this is done, a strip of fabric must be spread over the wax and torn in the opposite direction to the growth of the hair, with a dry and decisive movement. This technique can be quite painful and is not recommended for those suffering from capillary fragility .

Cold waxing: how to do it

Cold wax is easier to use and is also suitable for those with little experience, because there is no risk of getting burned. In addition, it is perfect for those with fragile capillaries and varicose veins.

Cold waxing strips are very easily found in supermarkets and are of different sizes, for every part of the body and face. The strips should be applied following the direction of hair growth and pulled away against the hair. The downside is that the hair can sometimes break and grow ingrown.

Sugar waxing: what it is

An excellent natural homemade wax is sugar, also called Arab wax . It is very delicate, suitable for sensitive skin, it is used like hot skin, but without stripes. The ingredients to prepare it are:

– 1 glass of sugar

– the juice of half a lemon

– 1 glass of water

cook the water and sugar in a saucepan for a few minutes. When you have obtained a caramel-like mixture, add the lemon and mix. Then cool the wax, dipping the saucepan in cold water, and work it with your hands, forming a ball. Slide the ball on the part to be depilated, always following the direction of hair growth, and then grab a flap and pull in the opposite direction.
