Neurodermatitis: what it is, what are the causes and how to treat it

Neurodermatitis is a problem that is often difficult to recognize and can become very annoying. Let’s find out what it is and how to cure it.
Neurodermatitis is a skin problem caused by a dysfunction of the skin barrier. In fact, the skin becomes permeable, favoring the evaporation of water and thus becoming more vulnerable to substances present in the environment. A problem that often causes inflammatory reactions such as itching, dry skin or erythema .
Neurodermatitis: what are the symptoms
As already mentioned, neurodermatitis (or neurodermatitis) is about skin suddenly becoming sensitive to everything.

Often confused with an allergy, it is instead a different type of problem that should therefore be recognized in time. Among the most common and obvious symptoms, there are:
– Scaly skin
– Itch
– Diffuse skin redness
It is a problem that can occur throughout the body but which tends to change areas based on age. In infants, for example, it can occur anywhere while with growth it tends to appear in the back of the knees and elbows. In adults, however, it occurs more easily on the hands and feet.
Neurodermatitis: the cure and what you need to know
The first thing to do when suffering from neudermatitis (also called atopic dermatitis by doctors) is to avoid contact with irritating or aggressive substances as much as possible. It is also important to avoid scratching (as much as possible) in order to avoid bacterial infections and to take care of the skin in order to make it as less permeable as possible.
In more important cases, the doctor may prescribe oral corticosteroids or antihistamines. Proper hygiene and the use of non-aggressive products and creams will do the rest. Furthermore, an anti-inflammatory diet can be associated with these, considered a valid help especially in acute states.
It is good, however, to remember that the skin with neurodermatitis is always sensitive, even when it is not seen. Therefore, those who suffer from it will always have to take care of it, even and especially in periods when there seems to be no visible symptoms . In case of symptoms that suggest neurodermatitis, the first move to take is always to contact your doctor.
