Traditionally, pumpkin seeds are a vermifuge, to fight intestinal worms, and a natural remedy, for urinary tract problems. Thanks to their high zinc content, they protect the prostate and relieve prostatic hypertrophy discomforts. They also increase the bladder muscle tone and fight urinary tract inflammations (such as cystitis).

Pumpkin seeds, however, have many other properties: they regulate the level of blood insulin, making them a great help against diabetes, they are one of the main sources of vegetal omega-3 and reduce bad cholesterol. These seeds are also rich in fibers and antioxidants, making them the perfect allies against intestinal problems and cell aging.

These seeds fatty oils have beneficial effects for the heart and liver. They are rich in tryptophans, amino acids our body turns into serotonin and melanin, promoting sleep. Finally, one last detail: although the pumpkin seeds calorie content is high, you just need a handful of them to enjoy their benefits.

Toasted pumpkin seeds, the recipe

One of the most delicious way to taste these seeds is by toasting them. In this way, you can make a quick and light snack you can eat when you want. Rinse well the seeds under running water. Then, let them soak for 24 hours in a bowl with 1 litre of water and a teaspoon of salt.

After 24 hours, drain the seeds. Place them in a baking tray lined with parchment paper, trying not to overlap one another. Bake them at 150° C for about 30 minutes: here are some delicious toasted pumpkin seeds!
