September marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn and for this reason among the seasonal vegetables we can find typical summer products and the first autumn vegetables. such as beans or celeriac, but also carrots and rocket. Let’s find out what are the many varieties of this particular period and what are the characteristics of each product.
The beans and green beans
A classic of the September seasonal vegetables are beans and green beans which, despite their name, belong to two different families. In fact, green beans are legumes and were imported to Europe following the discovery of America. They are perfect for preparing soups and minestrone and are also good for health, especially thanks to the protein and fiber content. Beans help maintain body weight and are a great source of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and copper. And don’t forget the contribution of B vitamins.

Unlike the bean, the green bean is assimilated to the vegetable family since they are harvested when they are not ripe and can be eaten with or without peel. Green beans are also a great source of nutrients and are a low calorie food, which makes it perfect for diets. It also contains many vitamins of group A, mineral salts, iron and potassium. However, compared to beans it has much lower percentages of protein.
Celeriac
Celeriac is a fairly unusual vegetable, but one that is typical of the September season. Generally, the root is consumed, which has a lumpy and slightly oblong shape. The outer surface of celeriac is light brown in color, while the inside is white and has leaves similar to those of celery.

In any case, this typical vegetable of the September season is very rich in water and mineral salts such as magnesium, potassium and iron. It also contains very few calories and has a high purifying power, so much so that it is excellent for eliminating phlegm. It is also very useful for constipation and naturally counteracts kidney stones and rheumatism. Celeriac root can be consumed in different ways such as in salads, soups, raw and cooked.
Carrots
During the month of September it is still possible to find carrots. It is a vegetable that is the source of vitamin A par excellence, very useful for the health of the skin and eyes. We must say, however, that carrots are now available all year round, but in particular they are those from the garden that ripen during the summer.
In any case, carrots have a low calorie intake and are excellent for snacks thanks to their satiating power and are also easily digested. Furthermore, if eaten raw, it will be possible to maintain all the nutritional properties of the vegetable, and therefore it will be possible to assimilate them better.
The rocket
Arugula is a typical vegetable of the September season and is distinguished by its very delicate taste and texture. In fact, this salad lasts a maximum of two days in the refrigerator and if you want to keep it longer you have to adopt special systems. For example, if you have leaves, it is better to close it in a plastic bag with holes.
If, on the other hand, you bought the rocket including the roots, it would be better to wrap them in a damp sheet of paper. In addition, if you keep the rocket in water, taking care to change it every day, it will last longer just like cut flowers. Arugula is a vegetable very rich in vitamin C and mineral salts, it also has antiscorbutic properties, stimulates appetite and digestion. It also has a beneficial effect on the liver and counteracts the formation of gas in the intestine.
