Precautions in the early months of pregnancy
The first three months of pregnancy are the most delicate ones. About 15% of all pregnancies stops spontaneously in this period. To prevent that, it is good to take some small precautions. First of all, you need to see regularly your gynaecologist and ask what to do to let everything go smoothly.
You need to avoid physical efforts. You need to rest and learn to feel your body and respect its needs. It is important to stop smoking, to follow a healthy diet and to take supplements of folic acid in order to avoid deformities.
Working in the first few months of pregnancy
The mandatory maternity leave lasts 5 months, 2 months before delivery and 3 months after. Alternatively, you can ask for a month of leave before the birth date and 4 months after.
In the first three months of pregnancy, instead, you can not ask for a maternity leave, unless your pregnancy is at risk and your doctor prescribes it.
If you have a sedentary job that does not require physical efforts, in general there is no risk. However, it is always good to remember that you need to move and get up from your chair at least every two or three hours.
