The recipe of the homemade apple cider vinegar

How to prepare at home apple cider vinegar in three steps: from choosing the right type of apple to the wurt.

Apple cider vinegar is one of the most used products to clean the house and for personal hygiene. Thanks to its disinfectant, whitening and sanitizing properties, it can be used in a variety of settings.

Making this product at home is easy and cheap and you can still obtain the same properties. In order to make a high quality vinegar, it is important to choose sweet and ripe apples. Moreover, you need to respect the right steps to make it. Let’s see how to prepare it!

How to make apple cider vinegar in three steps

1. The first step is extracting the juice. Use very sweet apples, possibily organic ones, but not too ripe nor bruised. Wash them carefully, peel them and eliminate their core. Then, squeeze the pulp until you obtain a liter of juice.

2. The second step is preparing the wurt. Start with pouring half of the juice in a glass container and close it with a balloon. Make sure it is well sealed so oxygen does not enter it. Let it ferment from 4 to 6 weeks, at a temperature among 18° and 20° C.

3. In the last step, the wurt will turn into vinegar. Pour the wurt in a large container, cover it with a clean cloth and store it in a warm place for 3 days. Make sure the temperature is about 20° C and avoid sudden temperature changes which can ruin the product. Stir it once a day with a wooden spoon. Finally, filter your vinegar and store it in a bottle, better if dark-colored, because direct light can ruin it.

Once ready, you can use this product as a beauty treatment for your hair, or to remove limescale or polish glass surfaces.
