Skin problems? Here’s how to deal with atopic dermatitis with herbal medicine and grandmother’s remedies.

Atopic dermatitis is an immune-induced inflammation of the skin . It often appears in infants or in very early childhood, but cases where atopic dermatitis affects adults are not rare. This disorder tends to have precise phases in which it develops: periods in which it regresses almost totally and others in which it worsens. Let’s find out the causes, symptoms and remedies we can take to fight atopic dermatitis.

The causes and symptoms of atopic dermatitis

This skin inflammation is a multifactorial disease : there are several factors that can trigger it. It is mainly an allergic reaction caused by an immune system problem , but it is assumed that there is also a hereditary component. Atopic dermatitis can occur due to exposure to food allergens or skin infections.

Initially it appears as a simple dryness, itching and redness of the area, in the acute phase of the disease, however, those suffering from atopic dermatitis may present one or more of these symptoms: erythema, eczema, blisters, itching, thickening of the skin, formation of fissures and flaking. Because of the injuries, it is possible that the skin is prone to bacterial infections . For this reason it is important to keep the skin intact.

Dermatitis of this nature can easily become chronic and recur even in adulthood, if this happens it is likely that the situation worsens and that the dermatitis also spreads to the face, eyelids and head.

How to prevent atopic dermatitis: all the tips

Against this inflammatory skin disease, some tricks can be adopted to alleviate the symptoms and, in some cases, prevent it. Since the skin is particularly delicate, it must be done so as not to stress it further. Therefore, avoid excessive washing , because you risk damaging the natural protection of the skin, moreover it is better not to apply creams, perfumes or emollient lotions that could trigger the onset of the rash.

Also, always use warm water and natural cleansers , remembering not to rub the skin to dry it. Even the clothing used has its importance: it is better to prefer natural fibers in contact with the skin, then choose clothes in cotton or silk , avoiding synthetic fabrics. Then wash the clothes with mild detergents, such as Marseille soap .

How to cure atopic dermatitis

The first thing to do to know how to treat those suffering from atopic skin is the one that passes from diagnosis: you must always go to your doctor in these cases who will probably prescribe a dermatological examination to center the problem in a short time. the treatment then varies according to the severity of the rash, for acute dermatitis it is advisable to suspend washing for a period so that the skin dries (you can only dry clean) and accompany it with a specific dressing.

Then there are some natural substances that can alleviate the symptoms of atopic dermatitis, natural remedies for dermatitis which, however, must always be shared with your doctor first. After showering, apply a calendula or mallow cream to the skin. Both of these remedies promote skin hydration, preventing lesions caused by the disease.

A good herbal tea with licorice and plantain helps to soothe the itch. We recommend three cups a day for a couple of weeks to reduce the symptoms of dermatitis. Finally , borage oil can be an excellent ally against the disease: its anti-inflammatory action is in fact very well known.

In case your doctor decides to advise you to use the dry cleaning technique with Potassium Permanganate solution, the steps to follow are as follows:

  • Take a clean white cotton cloth and wet it with the solution.
  • Wring the cloth carefully so that it remains moist and not too wet.
  • Now start to pass the towel all over the body (or in the areas most prone to dermatitis), taking care not to rub too much.
  • It is not necessary, and you do not have to, perform any rinsing, wait for the skin to dry and then dress quietly.
