Cuts on the tongue: characteristics and causes
The cuts on the tongue, in technical jargon, fissured tongue , are not a symptom of worrying pathologies in progress. Those who experience this problem have small cracks on the tongue which, in most cases, do not cause pain. Some people have them from birth, while others develop them over a lifetime. In any case, it is mainly men who have more or less deep grooves. The split tongue, with a very wrinkled appearance, can be easily recognized, thanks to some characteristics :
- cracks, fissures and furrows, even deep, on the dorsal surface and on the sides of the tongue;
- depth of cuts up to 6 millimeters;
- cuts only on the tongue;
- grooves joined together, which seem to divide the tongue into several parts.
The cut tongue has causes that are rarely related to other diseases in progress. Usually, the pathologies with which it can be associated are: Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome, Down syndrome and migrant glossitis or geographic tongue.

Cuts on the tongue: causes and remedies
As already pointed out, in most cases, the split tongue has no particular triggering causes. In addition to the diseases mentioned above, the problem can be generated by:
- worm infestation;
- poor quality prostheses;
- blood diseases;
- gastrointestinal pathologies;
- hormonal disorders;
- central nervous system disorders;
- liver problems;
- glossitis;
- allergic reaction to some products;
- vitamin deficiency, especially vitamins, especially B.
As for the pain caused by cuts, this is mainly due to food residues that can accumulate in the furrows. Therefore, after eating it is recommended to brush the tongue and always have proper oral hygiene, including mouthwash. The cure, of course, will depend on why the grooves have arisen. The most effective natural remedies to relieve heartburn are: aloe vera, honey, baking soda, licorice root, olive leaf and ice.
