Discover the future of sustainable agriculture at “Agricoltura è” in Rome: A journey through innovation and tradition

The “Agricoltura è” event in Rome in March 2025 highlights the importance of sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and circular economy through discussions and initiatives.

From March 24 to 26, 2025, Rome will host the “Agricoltura è” event, a significant gathering for the agri-food sector organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forests (MASAF). The event will transform Piazza della Repubblica into a hub for discussions and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and the circular economy. With the participation of prominent organizations such as Legacoop Agroalimentare, the event will emphasize the need for balancing tradition and innovation in agriculture. Key topics include the Mediterranean Diet as a development model, the role of regenerative agriculture, and the experiences of local territories in revitalizing marginal areas.

The Mediterranean Diet as a development model

On March 26, at 3:00 PM, an important meeting titled “Mediterranean Diet: A Development Model for European and Marginal Territories” will take place. This event will feature representatives from Legacoop Agroalimentare, Coldiretti, Future Food Institute, and the Municipality of Pollica. The discussion will focus on the Mediterranean Diet’s value not only as a cultural heritage but also as a tool for sustainable development. By integrating regenerative agriculture, collective well-being, and economic sustainability, the Mediterranean Diet offers a comprehensive model that can drive growth in marginal areas, turning them into laboratories of resilience and innovation.

Key figures and speakers

The meeting will be moderated by Sara Roversi, president of the Future Food Institute, who will lead the debate among institutions and representatives from the agricultural and research sectors. Marco Lupo, head of the food sovereignty department at MASAF, will deliver institutional greetings. Cristian Maretti, president of Legacoop Agroalimentare, will discuss the role of cooperatives in promoting ecological transition models. Alessandro Apolito from Coldiretti will highlight the importance of agriculture for food security, environmental protection, and social development.

Significant territorial experiences

Throughout the event, various local representatives will share their experiences. Stefano Pisani, mayor of Pollica, will illustrate how the Mediterranean Diet has contributed to the revitalization of marginal areas. Mariangela Coringrato, mayor of Fardella, will present the “Via del Miskiglio” project, which is a network of Lucanian municipalities that have successfully promoted their cultural and natural heritage. Antonio Leonardo Montuoro, president of the International Academy of the Mediterranean Diet in Nicotera, will share insights from his town, known for Ancel Keys’ Seven Countries Study, where the Mediterranean Diet is a symbol of longevity and quality of life.

A vision for the future of agriculture

This edition of “Agricoltura è,” coinciding with the 68th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, sends a clear message: the future of agriculture must be built on sustainable models rooted in tradition while embracing innovation. The Mediterranean Diet is not only a heritage of the past but also a key to addressing future challenges, transforming marginal territories into key players in a circular and inclusive economy. Sara Guidelli, general director of Legacoop Agroalimentare, emphasized, “Our commitment is to transform challenges into opportunities for the future. The Mediterranean Diet represents a cultural heritage and a sustainable development model that integrates regenerative agricultural practices and biodiversity conservation. Through cooperation and innovation, we can enhance marginal territories and ensure prosperity for local communities. Investing in new skills and advanced technologies is essential to meeting consumer needs.” Participation in events like “Agricoltura è” demonstrates Legacoop’s dedication to representing the excellence of Made in Italy, blending tradition and innovation for a sustainable future.
