Hypertension: what it is, causes and remedies

pressure measurement

Arterial hypertension is a problem that should never be underestimated. Let's find out what it depends on and how to intervene when it occurs.

Arterial hypertension is a condition of high blood pressure in the arteries.
A problem that involves at least 30% of the population and that can increase in menopausal women. Although it is not a real disease, hypertension is a risk factor that can cause serious illness. For this reason it is essential to always check the values of your pressure in order to be able to intervene immediately in case of problems.

Hypertension: what are the causes? Here are the most important

Let's start by saying that pressure is divided into high and low. Consequently, in case of high blood pressure, you may find yourself faced with your different situations. The first is that of systolic hypertension , which occurs when only the maximum values are high. In the case of diastolic hypertension , on the other hand, it is the minimum that is too high. When, on the other hand, both values are high, we are faced with systolic-diastolic hypertension.

That said, the first way to better understand hypertension is to start with its causes.
These, in most cases, are linked to a wrong diet, excess weight, a sedentary life or the intake of substances that act on blood pressure values.

Going more specifically, we speak in particular of:

– Familiarity
– Genetics
– Obesity
– Smoke
– Age
– Diet rich in salt
– Consumption of alcohol
– Stress
– Sedentary lifestyle

In all these cases, we speak of primary hypertension, a situation present in 95% of cases in which this problem occurs. The remaining 5% instead depends on pre-existing diseases such as diabetes, heart problems, incorrect functioning of the kidneys, etc…

Hypertension: the most common symptoms

The presence of symptoms in case of arterial hypertension is not always obvious. Although these almost always occur, especially in the case of sudden surges upwards, in most cases they may not exist at all. In fact, the body tends to get used to the various changes rather quickly and this leads the body to no longer send signals . An important problem if we consider that, beyond the symptoms, hypertension is still dangerous.

In general, however, the symptoms associated with hypertension are:

– Migraine
– Sense of dizziness
– Ringing in the ears
– Dizziness
– Impaired vision
– Epistaxis

In the presence of these symptoms, but also if you accidentally find blood pressure beyond the limits, it is very important to talk to your doctor immediately and start keeping the situation under control. In this way it will be possible to immediately understand if the problem was isolated or if, on the other hand, real hypertension is in progress.

What are the values that indicate hypertension

We talk about hypertension when the maximum values are equal to or greater than 140 for the maximum and equal to or greater than 90 for the minimum.
To ascertain the actual presence of high blood pressure it is important to carry out at least three measurements a few minutes apart from each other.

If the high values last for some time, we speak of arterial hypertension which, based on the values, can be classified as more or less serious.
Obviously, even slightly lower values than those listed are a warning sign . And, for this reason, it is very important to keep it under control in order to verify that it does not increase.

What are the treatments for high blood pressure

Very high blood pressure is extremely harmful to the body. For this reason, she is considered a silent killer. If left untreated, in fact, it can lead to the development of heart, kidney and brain diseases. It can also cause heart attacks or strokes.
Once the problem is recognized, therefore, it is very important to act immediately in order to prevent the situation from worsening.

Among the major precautions to be implemented are that of a healthy lifestyle characterized by a balanced diet with little salt but at the same time rich in fruit and vegetables. To this must be added regular physical activity and weight and stress control.

Obviously, if the levels are too high, the doctor may decide to prescribe drugs that can reduce the levels. Among these are ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, diuretics, calcium channel blockers, etc… Obviously, only the doctor will decide which drugs are best to take and for how long. DIY is therefore highly discouraged.

Preventing hypertension is possible: here's how

Although, as already mentioned, hypertension is a problem that can also depend on secondary causes, it is possible to prevent or reduce it. To do this, it is important to stop smoking and consuming alcohol, lose weight if you have extra pounds, choose only healthy foods free of salt and practice physical activity . Drinking plenty of water (with a little salt and a low fixed residue) is also very important because through diuresis it is possible to reduce blood pressure values.

Of course, there are also natural remedies that can be useful when combined with everything else. They range from hawthorn herbal tea to green tea and horsetail which is a natural diuretic that also acts on blood pressure values. Obviously it is always good to talk to your doctor first and remember that to have an effect, drinks should always be taken without sugar.

Finally, periodic pressure control proves to be the first weapon to fight with. By immediately taking control of the problem, in fact, it is possible to avoid getting worse, preserving health and slowly reducing the pressure values. A simple and effective way to quickly improve your health.
