What the study that promotes the consumption of magnesium says

The study, sponsored by researchers from the Neuroimaging and Brain Lab of the Australian National University, was carried out on a sample of more than 6,000 people between the ages of 40 and 73.
They took 550 mg of magnesium every day, thus exceeding the normally recommended amount by almost double.
The result was that of a more cognitively younger brain.

An aspect that, again according to the study, would also lead to a possible improvement in diseases affecting the brain such as, for example, Alzheimer's disease.
Magnesium, in fact, has a protective role on the white matter of the brain. Furthermore, its benefits on the whole organism are now known.

Obviously, it will take other studies and more precise measurements to be able to ascertain that increasing the amount of magnesium really has a beneficial value. However, this is a first step that can make the difference and confirm once again how much magnesium can be considered a highly precious mineral.

What are the benefits of magnesium and where to find it

As already mentioned, magnesium is useful for lowering blood pressure. At the same time it is good for the bones, improves muscle contractions, relieves muscle pain and allows for better functioning of the central nervous system. In some cases it is administered as a laxative and, for this reason, it is good to know that consuming it can lead to intestinal problems such as diarrhea for example.

To take the right amount it is therefore very important to learn to recognize the foods that contain it. Among the many there are, for example, lettuce, spinach, chard, chicory, whole grains, dried fruit, legumes and fish. In some cases it may also be useful to take supplements. In this case, however, it is necessary to inform yourself well about the amount of magnesium you take regularly.
