The rental of medical devices

The rental of medical devices is a service that allows us to guarantee adequate assistance to as many people as possible during periods of rehabilitation or hospitalization.

Rental allows you to take advantage of cutting-edge medical devices without having to pay the total amount immediately.

The rental is provided by pharmacies, non-profit organizations, private entities such as Ortopedia Passoni, specialized in the rental of orthopedic aids or health insurers: which can cover the cost of the product as part of the health care plan.

What devices can be rented?

The devices that can be rented are considerable and vary depending on the patient's needs:

  • crutches: usually rented for a short period of time post-surgery or during rehabilitation;
  • reading or dining tables: necessary for those who are unable to carry out normal daily activities;
  • wheelchairs or scooters: necessary for the mobility of disabled, elderly or patients unable to carry out post-surgery physical activity;
  • lifts and tools necessary to move a person;
  • hygiene devices: for example adapters for toilets, bidets or showers, to guarantee greater autonomy;
  • temporary prostheses;
  • RIS-PACS systems (understood as hardware and software components) for the processing, management, archiving and digital transmission of reports and images;
  • security and video surveillance systems for hospital facilities;
  • machinery for sanitizing premises and equipment;

Who is the rental aimed at?

The rental is aimed at both private individuals and companies in the following cases:

  • patients in the post-operative or recovery phase: rental allows you not to face a large expense for a device needed for a limited period of time;
  • elderly people with difficulty walking and carrying out activities;
  • long-term or permanent disabled;
  • healthcare workers or medical facilities;
  • medical practices, clinics, professionals;
  • startups.

For private patients, rental is usually effective because the equipment is not needed for a long period of time and therefore the purchase of these devices would not be necessary.

In fact, very often the devices are only functional after an operation and purchasing them would be a waste.

As far as professionals in the sector are concerned, however, it presents itself as an excellent alternative to purchasing in many cases.

Just think of all those medical companies that need to constantly change devices to have the best technologies available; or start-ups, which do not yet have the amount of money available to purchase all the new systems.

Another very frequent case is that of occasional use, many doctors do not use some machines every day, so having the possibility of daily and weekly rental allows you to respond to needs periodically. Rental also allows you to intervene in the event of a malfunction of an appliance, immediately providing the new one while waiting for your own to be repaired.

Another point in favor of rental is that of assistance, in fact maintenance and any problems are managed by the company that supplies the device. This allows the user to be more relaxed and have an additional guarantee.

The cost of rental

The rental cost is certainly a plus compared to the purchase of medical devices.

The customer who approaches rental is immediately aware of all the possible solutions, costs, installments, and respective financing or financial aid that he may have to deal with later.

There are two main ways of approaching rental:

  • Financial Leasing : a leasing company purchases the necessary device on behalf of the company and gives it to them in exchange for a periodic fee and final redemption. The maximum duration is 60 months and the maximum amount is €100,000. The advantage is that the asset is financed earlier and then repaid over a longer period of time.
  • Operating Leasing : the company provides the user with an asset for a limited period of time by paying a periodic fee. The maximum duration is 60 months, the minimum amount is €1500 with the possibility of having monthly or quarterly fees. Maintenance and support can be included in the monthly fee.

For the deductibility of expenses, the receipt or invoice with the user's data and the description of the medical device is required. The deductibility is equal to 19% as is already the case for pharmaceutical products.

However, not all devices are deductible, in fact you must check that they are part of the list provided by the National Health Service.

The following devices are also part of the deductible devices:

  • lenses, glasses and frames to correct visual defects;
  • plasters, bandages, gauze and advanced dressings;
  • pregnancy tests, urine, menopause;
  • testing for celiac disease or diabetes;
  • self-diagnostic tests for food intolerances, prostate, triglycerides.
