Unveiling the secret to healthy eating: Rimini’s young students embark on a flavorful journey

The importance of educating young minds on healthy eating habits through interactive learning experiences at the Centro Agro Alimentare Riminese.

The “Scuola con Gusto” project has launched its second edition at the Centro Agro Alimentare Riminese, aiming to educate primary school children in Rimini on the importance of healthy eating and awareness of fruit and vegetable products. With the participation of over 160 students, the initiative has grown significantly, reflecting its success and appreciation. The project is backed by local authorities and several organizations, providing an engaging platform for students through educational activities and practical experiences. This article explores the key elements of the “Scuola con Gusto” initiative, the support it receives, and its impact on young students.

Welcoming the young participants

The event was warmly inaugurated by Maria Gabriella Piccarim, the vice president of the Centro Agro Alimentare Riminese, along with Cinzia Furiati, the director, and Chiara Bellini, the deputy mayor of Rimini. Their presence highlighted the community’s commitment to promoting healthy eating habits among children. This year, the project saw a significant increase in participation, with over 160 children from the Dante Alighieri Comprehensive Institute and various schools like Madre Teresa di Calcutta, Decio Raggi, and Federico Fellini. This increase in numbers underscores the project’s success and the growing interest in educating children about nutrition.

Collaborative support and contributions

The initiative has garnered enthusiastic support from the educational sector, with Emanuele Pirrottina, the Head of the IC Alighieri, and Alessandra Ronci, the deputy head, welcoming the project. Federica Manduchi, the coordinator, also played a key role in supporting the event. Additionally, the project benefits from the backing of Romagna Banca BCC and the Cooperativa Co.F.Mo. Several companies, including Orsero, Pink Lady, Marlene, and Dole, contribute to the initiative by providing useful gadgets for the participants. Such collaborations enhance the project’s reach and effectiveness, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for the children.

Engaging educational activities and workshops

The core of the “Scuola con Gusto” project lies in its practical and interactive approach to learning. Students are given the opportunity to shop for fruits and vegetables at the market’s producer and merchant booths. These experiences are enriched by morning workshops where children can ask questions and learn directly from the vendors. Following this, educational games led by Sofia Canini, a nutritionist biologist, help students understand the seasonality and nutritional properties of different foods. Paola Frontini, the director of IAL Riccione, guides students in preparing healthy and delicious recipes, with the help of hospitality and catering school professors and students from Riccione.

Official statements and community impact

Chiara Bellini, the deputy mayor, expressed her satisfaction with the continuation of the project, emphasizing the importance of a healthy diet and encouraging children to explore the benefits of fruits and vegetables. She highlighted the role of shared experiences and educational games in overcoming children’s usual dietary resistances. Cinzia Furiati also remarked on the project’s enthusiastic reception, noting the active participation of students and the appreciation from institutions and schools. She emphasized that tasting fruits and vegetables, learning their flavors and properties through games and simple recipe preparation, promotes healthy lifestyles and fights food waste.

The “Scuola con Gusto” project at the Centro Agro Alimentare Riminese exemplifies how educational initiatives can effectively foster healthy eating habits among young learners. By bringing together community leaders, educational institutions, and businesses, this initiative not only educates children but also inspires a broader cultural shift towards healthier living and sustainable practices. As the project continues to grow, it holds the promise of shaping a healthier future for the next generation.
