Bagels Easter
Let's prepare the delicious Easter taralli, a traditional Neapolitan dessert with a soft and crumbly dough.
To serve a good and traditional dessert, there is the recipe for Easter taralli. It is a typical Italian product, usually prepared in the Campania area. These are small donut-shaped sweets, they are called taralli but they are mostly biscuits . Their dough is made up of a particular shortcrust pastry which, following the original recipe of Neapolitan taralli, is created with lard . Few other ingredients, common and simple, and preparing these sweets is really simple. Cooking in the oven makes them fragrant and soft, good to nibble as a snack or to dip in milk.
According to tradition they are prepared during the Easter holidays, but they are good all year round. To follow the traditional preparation, you must add a little Strega liqueur , typically from Campania.
Preparing the recipe for Easter taralli
- Sift the flour and pour it into a bowl; then, add the granulated sugar.
- Mix and create a dimple in the center. Break the egg inside and add the yolks.
- Add the eggs, mixing a little, before adding the lard.
- Pour in the grated lemon zest and also the liqueur (which is optional).
- Sift the yeast and add it too; then, knead everything vigorously .
- When you obtain a homogeneous and smooth dough, wrap it in cling film and leave it to rest for 30 minutes in the fridge .
- After this time, place the dough on a floured surface and cut it into various pieces (not small), using a tarot knife.
- Shape each piece to form a loaf, approximately 10 cm long and 1 cm thick . Join the two ends of each loaf, forming a donut.
- Once done, take a baking tray with low sides and cover it with a sheet of baking paper. Place the taralli on top, spaced apart from each other.
- Brush a little milk over the cakes, then bake in the oven at 180°C for 30 minutes .
- When they are golden brown, you can take them out of the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
Variant of Neapolitan taralli
The traditional recipe for these Neapolitan sweets involves the use of lard in the dough. To create a lighter dough, however, you can replace this ingredient. In its place, you can use 70 g of butter . Furthermore, for an even lighter dough, use 50 ml of seed oil.

Neapolitan Easter taralli are delicious and fragrant desserts, to be eaten in company, dipped or packaged and given as gifts to whoever you prefer. You can keep them for 3-4 days , in a tin box.
