Baked staples

baked staples

A light dessert, perfect for Carnival, baked staples will appeal to adults and children alike. Try them with our infallible recipe!

Carnival is upon us and as you know tradition dictates that many varieties of fried desserts be prepared: chiacchiere, cream puffs, krapfen, etc… Since we are often looking for something lighter, today we are preparing baked staples.

Similar to the fried donuts found at amusement parks and bars, this version is much lighter. However, it will not lose its softness and aroma , thanks to the leavening and a perfect dough. Let's find out how to prepare them with the classic recipe with potatoes.

Preparation

How to prepare the baked staples recipe

1

In a bowl, preferably a stand mixer fitted with a hook, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk . Then add the flour, sugar, grated citrus peel and start kneading.

2

Then add the egg and, when it has been absorbed, add the soft butter . Let the machine work until the dough is strung, i.e. twisted, on the hook, then transfer it to a buttered bowl.

3

Leave it to rise covered with a cloth in the oven with the light on for two hours .

4

Now take the dough and, using a little flour, roll it out with a rolling pin until it is one centimeter thick. Using a pastry cutter with a diameter of 8 cm, cut out discs and make the characteristic central hole with a smaller one (about 2 cm).

5

Transfer the donuts to a baking tray lined with baking paper and let them rise for another hour.

6

Then bake at 180°C for 15-20 minutes . Once cold, brush them with a little milk and cover them with plenty of granulated sugar . Your baked donuts are ready to be enjoyed!

We made the donuts with a pastry cutter but if you want you can create the characteristic "bunny" shape just as you can see in this video recipe .

For equally light cooking you can also try your hand at the staples in the air fryer or experiment with delicious baked chatter to organize a light carnival party without giving up taste.

Conservation

Baked staples will keep for 2-3 days in a hermetically sealed plastic bag . We recommend reheating them briefly in the air fryer or oven before serving.
