Fried chicken wings

Incredibly good and simple to prepare, fried chicken wings will be your comfort food par excellence. Serve them with chips to pamper your family!

The well-known American fast food chain specializing in fried chicken has landed in Italy for some time now. Needless to say, we too got carried away a little, perhaps envious of all those Americans who enjoyed fried chicken wings directly from the classic red cardboard container.

However, crispy fried chicken is simple to prepare at home and you can make it whenever you want. It's a rather simple recipe, born from the need to use leftover chicken wings. In fact, it is known that the most valuable parts such as the breast and thighs are used for other preparations, while the second-choice parts are often sold at rock-bottom prices. Here, now we'll reveal how to make American fried chicken using a few simple ingredients !

How to prepare the American fried chicken recipe

  1. First of all, take the chicken wings and break them at the junction point where the cartilage is located: in this way you will obtain two parts, one meatier and the other leaner. Using kitchen tweezers, remove any feathers remaining on the skin and complete the job by flaming them with a torch or directly on the fire.
  2. Combine half of the spices in a bowl: garlic and onion powder, paprika, pepper and chilli as well as a pinch of salt. Then pour in the buttermilk and mix the flavors well. Dip the chicken wings and leave them to marinate for a couple of hours although ideally it would be overnight in the fridge, covered in cling film. The longer the marinade, the more tender the meat will be.
  3. The following day, drain the wings and pass them one by one in the flour flavored with the remaining spices and another pinch of salt. For a crispier breading, proceed with a double breading by passing them in the buttermilk and flour a second time.
  4. In a pan, heat the seed oil (or lard) to 160°C-170°C , then start frying the chicken, making sure that it is only half immersed . In total it will have to cook for at least 15 minutes: as you know, white meat should always be eaten well cooked.
  5. Turn the chicken often while it is cooking so that the heat penetrates to the heart but does not burn. Let it rest for 5 minutes on absorbent paper before serving, seasoning with salt flakes.

Serve the fried chicken wings with chips and some sauce , perhaps made by you: we suggest ketchup , which can never be missing, but a delicious homemade barbecue sauce is also perfect!

Conservation

These wings must be enjoyed immediately , still hot and crunchy! If you don't finish them, you can also store them in the refrigerator for up to a day in a special container with an airtight lid. We do not recommend freezing in the freezer.
