Preparation

How to prepare the recipe for apple roses and puff pastry

1

First, make sure you use organic apples since we will keep the peel. The best varieties for this recipe are those with red skin (Fuji, Red Delicious or Pink Lady) because they create a beautiful chromatic effect. Then divide them into four and remove the core.

2

Using a mandolin, cut them into 2mm thick slices.

3

Bring 2 inches of water to the boil in a pan and add the lemon juice . Dip the apples and let them cook for a minute , no more. This way they will become tender and you will avoid them breaking when you roll them up. If you are in a hurry or see that your slices flex effortlessly then you can skip this step.

4

From the rectangular puff pastry roll, cut 5 cm high strips . Spread a layer of jam in the center then place the apple slices so that the curved part protrudes slightly from the dough. Perfume with a sprinkling of cinnamon .

5

Fold the pastry to cover the apples and roll tightly.

6

At this point you can simply place the roses in the muffin pan . To make them even tastier we recommend buttering the mold and sprinkling the inside with brown sugar which will caramelize the pastry during cooking, making everything even more delicious.

7

Bake in the oven at 180°C for 20 minutes . You can serve them warm or cold, finishing with a sprinkling of icing sugar if desired.

Apple roses: the variations

These desserts with ready-made puff pastry will save you every time you have an unexpected guest but you still want to serve a truly spectacular dessert . In fact, as we have just seen, they are not only very easy to make, but they can also be customized in a thousand different ways: let's see some of them together!

  • Let's start immediately with the tastiest variant: apple and Nutella roses. Instead of jam, simply spread a light layer of hazelnut spread on the puff pastry (don't overdo it, please, otherwise it will come out during cooking and settle on the bottom of your muffin cups, risking burning).
  • Don't have any emergency puff pastry in the fridge ready to use? Doing it at home, if you are in a hurry, is impractical . In this case we suggest you make apple roses with shortcrust pastry, which you can prepare in just a few minutes with our recipe . The result will be biscuitier, but they will still be delicious! However, we advise you to keep a close eye on them during cooking, which may take a little longer .
  • To transform them into a real dessert, serve them with custard.

Conservation

The apple roses will keep for a maximum of a couple of days out of the refrigerator. Given the presence of fresh fruit, we recommend consuming them as soon as possible.
