Mouth watering! But how is it prepared?

An edible centrepiece: the butter candle

An original centerpiece or an unconventional festive appetizer . It is in both ways that we can define the candle prepared with butter , or butter candle, which has started to gain popularity on TikTok in recent times.

Starting from the United States and created by Yumnda Jawad with her Feel Good Foodie profile, this trend has quickly spread globally. An innovative idea that has captured the attention of cooking enthusiasts and food lovers from all over the world, adding a touch of originality and fun to parties.

How to prepare the butter candle

The process for making the butter candle is quite simple.

  1. Simply melt the butter in a bain-marie, adding extra ingredients as desired to make it tastier, such as garlic, edible flowers, honey or cocoa powder.
  2. Then you need to carefully pour it into a paper cup and add a wick made from natural materials, such as cotton or hemp, considering direct contact with food.
  3. Once the mixture has cooled completely, you need to set it in the freezer for a couple of hours.
  4. Subsequently, once the time necessary for its solidification has passed, the candle can be removed from the glass.
  5. Before lighting it, however, you need to create a central hole in a loaf, which should preferably be chosen large, so that you can insert the butter candle inside, thus creating a unique and complete appetizer.

The owner of the TikTok Feel Good Foodie account and founder of this trend, in the video in which she makes the candle, gives some advice : “ You can start dipping the bread about 10 minutes after lighting the butter candle. It's so much fun and so good !”

The butter candle is an idea that will not only delight your palates , but will also add a scenographic and engaging touch to the festive table. It is also an excellent idea for a DIY gift or to bring as a gift to dinner with friends.

Recommendations for use

It is absolutely essential to always exercise extreme caution when handling anything involving an open flame.

As for the wick, if you are concerned that it is not made of 100% cotton or natural materials , a safe solution is to use clean kitchen twine. This ensures that nothing harmful can contaminate your meal, as the melted butter from the candle will be consumed.
