The carrot ketchup recipe is perfect for those looking for a quick sauce to accompany meat, fish, vegetables or simply to spread on bread.

Carrot ketchup is a particular sweet and sour sauce suitable for those who want to try their hand at a quick and easy but different than usual recipe. Unlike the well-known sauce from which it takes its name, in this recipe the main ingredient is carrot which, together with spices and flavourings, releases all its sweetness .

Homemade ketchup with carrots can be combined with dishes of all kinds, all thanks to its delicate but at the same time strong taste, which makes it perfect in combination with tasty dishes. It is also excellent for spreading on toast or piadina as an appetizer or finger food. In short, it's a recipe worth trying!

Preparing carrot ketchup

  1. To prepare this particular sauce, start by peeling the carrots , wash them and cut them into rounds . Boil the carrots in plenty of water until they become soft .
  2. Place the vinegar and sugar in another saucepan, heat over low heat then add the blanched carrots.
  3. Season with salt, paprika and cinnamon and continue cooking until the liquid has dried. Turn off the heat and let cool.
  4. Transfer the now cold carrots into the blender, add the oil (about a spoonful) and blend until you obtain a creamy and smooth sauce . To make your sauce even tastier you can also add a teaspoon of worcestershire sauce.
  5. Serve immediately with meat, fish or whatever you prefer!

Here is a video that illustrates all the steps. If you want, you can also add vinegar and sugar directly when cooking with the carrots but we preferred to do it later to obtain a stronger flavour.

Conservation

Carrot-based ketchup can be stored in the refrigerator , tightly covered with cling film, for up to 2-3 days after preparation.
