Charoset
Made from fresh and dried fruit and richly spiced, charoset is a typical dish of Jewish Easter, Pesach.
Jewish Easter is called Pesach , a holiday whose date, just like the Christian one, varies from year to year. Typical of the day is the Pesach Seder , a dish that includes typical recipes with strong symbolism such as Charoset. In essence it is a sweet pastry made from richly spiced fresh and dried fruit usually served with unleavened bread.
The Charoset symbolizes, in the Jewish Passover tradition, the mortar used by Jewish slaves in the construction of the pyramids. As with all traditional recipes, however, there are also different variations of the Charoset. It can change the type of fruit, the spice mix or the process depending on where you are.
How to prepare the Charoset recipe
- First, rehydrate the raisins in warm water.
- Then transfer the dried fruit, dehydrated fruit, spices and orange juice into the blender and blend everything until you obtain a paste.
- Once ready, peel the apple, remove the core and grate it with a grater with large holes.
- Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix to combine. Then cover with cling film and let everything rest in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving , accompanying it with the characteristic unleavened bread .
