Dried kiwis

Let's find out how to prepare dried kiwis both in the oven and in the dryer. These chips are great for a snack or breakfast.
Dehydrated fruit is becoming increasingly popular as a healthy snack and hunger buster . Nowadays there are really all types on the market but what not everyone knows is that it can be easily made at home even without a dryer . We have done several experiments and, among the most successful, there are dried kiwis.
The advantage of making this type of preparation at home is that you have total control over the raw material. You will therefore be able to purchase organic kiwis at the right level of ripeness. Furthermore, in addition to the traditional ones, you can experiment with yellow kiwis or a mix of both : you will get a very colorful jar! Let's see all the steps to make kiwi chips in the oven and with the dryer.
Preparation
Oven-dried kiwis
First you need to choose the fruit: it must be firm and not too ripe because the more water it contains, the longer it will take to dry it with results that are not always satisfactory. Then peel the kiwis and remove the hard part of the peduncle which usually remains in the pulp.
Cut them into slices half a centimeter thick and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake at 50°C fan-assisted mode for 4 hours . For uniform drying you can turn the kiwi slices every hour.
Let them cool on a wire rack before transferring them to a glass jar.
Excellent to enjoy as a snack, kiwi chips can be made even more delicious by covering half of them with melted dark chocolate . After dipping them, let them dry on a sheet of baking paper before placing them in a glass jar.

Also in this case the recommendation to use firm, not too ripe fruit is valid. If your kiwis are organic, you can also wash them thoroughly to remove the hair well and leave the skin on. Then cut them into slices half a centimeter thick.
Place them without overlapping them on the dehydrator trays and set 45°C for 24-48 hours . The time is always indicative because it depends on the quantity of water present in the fruit. In all cases they must be very dry.
