Joe Bastianich’s Spaghetti with Meatballs

spaghetti with meatballs by Joe Bastianich

An American dish that thinks it's Italian: it's Joe Bastianich's spaghetti with meatballs, good and substantial.

Okay, it's a dish that has very little Italian about it, so much so that it has never been seen on the menu of any restaurant. But it's good, damn good, and perfect if you're looking for a recipe that allows you to bring first and second course to the table in one go . We are talking about Joe Bastianich's spaghetti with meatballs, shared by the entrepreneur on the MasterChef Italia online magazine.

Former host of Masterchef Italia and well-known restaurateur of Italian origins, Joe grew up with his mother Lidia's Italian cuisine. However, there has been no shortage of contamination and in fact spaghetti with meatballs is a very famous Italian sound dish overseas. Have you ever prepared them? We advise you to overcome your reticence and try them because they are amazing!

How to make Joe Bastianich's spaghetti and meatballs recipe

  1. First prepare the meatballs . In a bowl, mix the minced meat, the sausage removed from the casing and crumbled with your hands, 1 egg, the parmesan, the breadcrumbs soaked in milk, the breadcrumbs, the parsley, salt and pepper. Mix well with your hands and form meatballs about the size of a walnut.
  2. Heat a drizzle of oil in a pan and brown the meatballs on all sides. Then transfer them to a plate and, in the same pan, heat another drizzle of oil.
  3. Brown the garlic clove and chilli pepper then add the peeled tomatoes , mashing them with a fork. Flavor with basil and bay leaves and cook for 25 minutes , seasoning with salt and pepper. Halfway through the time, add the meatballs.
  4. Cook the spaghetti in abundant salted water and as soon as they are cooked, drain them. Add them to the pan with the sauce and cook for a few minutes before serving, completing with a sprinkling of grated parmesan.

Another dish that makes us Italians turn up our noses is fettuccine Alfredo . In the States they are among the most famous recipes and, in our opinion, it is worth trying them at least once.

storage

Spaghetti with meatballs will keep for 2 days in the refrigerator . Like many pasta dishes, reheated in a pan they are even better.
