Roasted peppers

Roasted peppers

Roasted peppers are great as a side dish or appetizer, quick and easy to prepare.

Peppers are very versatile and lend themselves to a variety of preparations. But how are roasted peppers made? Today we'll see how to prepare them in the oven, on the gas or in the pan (but also in the air fryer). With this preparation, i.e. roasted, the peppers are fragrant and delicious. Since it is a vegetable that is not easy to digest, it is better not to overconsume it. Another trick is to remove the outer skin, so as to make them lighter .

All the ways to make roasted peppers

As we anticipated, there are at least 3 ways to cook roasted peppers (and then peel them to make them more digestible). Are you ready to meet them all?

Oven roasted peppers

  1. Before starting, take your peppers and wash them under running water.
  2. Dry them with absorbent paper and prick them with a fork to make cooking easier.
  3. Take a large enough baking tray and line it with baking paper.
  4. Distribute the peppers on it, spacing them apart.
  5. Cook them in a preheated oven at a temperature of 180°C for 40 minutes .
  6. At the end of cooking, you must let the peppers cool before removing the skin (alternatively, you can also choose not to remove it).
  7. Place them in a paper bag or plastic bag .
  8. Close tightly and leave like this for at least 10 minutes , because the steam facilitates the removal of the external peel.
  9. Next, cut the peppers in two and very carefully remove the seeds from inside .
  10. Remove the outer skin, without compromising the pulp, and cut it as you prefer.
  11. Transfer the peppers to a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
  12. Pour in the olive oil slowly and add a little chopped garlic.
  13. Mix and they are ready to be served.

Peppers roasted on gas

This version is certainly one of the oldest and most rustic , when peppers were still roasted over a direct flame.

  1. Take the peppers and place them directly in contact with the stove flame .
  2. Turn them from time to time, being careful not to burn yourself, until they are toasted on all sides.
  3. Once ready, place them while still boiling inside a plastic bag, close it and wait 5-10 minutes before peeling them completely, cleaning them from seeds and internal filaments and using them in your recipes.

Not only on gas, this technique can be implemented with any open flame (but also on the barbecue).

Pan-roasted peppers

Even in the pan the process is very simple:

  1. After having washed and dried them to remove any residual soil, place your peppers in a hot pan, already on the flame.
  2. Cook over medium-high heat on all sides, turning the vegetables often.
  3. Continue cooking until all sides of the peppers have softened .
  4. Turn off the heat and, as in the two previous methods, place them inside a plastic bag a few minutes before peeling them.

Roasted peppers in air fryer

We end on a high note with the preparation of the roasted peppers in the fryer, which is nothing more than a sort of electric ventilated oven. Thanks to its small size, however, it manages to make dishes much crispier on the surface and with less waiting time.

  1. Take the washed and dried peppers and place them directly in the air fryer basket, not overlapping .
  2. Let them cook for about 20 minutes at 200°C , turning them halfway through cooking.
  3. Turn off the fryer and leave them in for a few minutes before peeling them and using them.

Conservation

Roasted peppers are excellent as a side dish, pairing very well with both meat and fish dishes, but they are also very good as an appetizer. You can store them in the fridge for 2 days , closed in an airtight container.

Try the goodness of gratin peppers .
