S’more, the protagonists of American camping

s'more

There's no good camping without some delicious s'mores cooked over the fire. Here's how to prepare the dessert with marshmallows.

It is above all thanks to films and TV series that some typically American customs have come to pique our minds. Among these we find the preparation of s'mores or smores, a camping dessert made with biscuits, chocolate and marshmallows. The origin of the recipe is shrouded in mystery and is disputed by Canada and the United States. What is certain is that the first appearance in a written text dates back to 1927 and is contained in the scout manual Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts .

Even on the origin of the name it is not possible to clarify. Many believe that it is the contraction of some more , that is, even more, referring to biscuits and pronounced with a full mouth. But what are s'mores? Essentially, the marshmallow is skewered on a stick and melted over a fire . It is then removed from the skewer with the help of two biscuits, as if it were a sandwich, and enriched with a piece of chocolate which tends to melt with the heat.
