Without added sugars, apple jam is perfect to enjoy for breakfast spread on bread or toast.

Sugar-free apple jam is a real treat. It is prepared with only two ingredients , in fact in addition to the apples we will only add lemon juice, and it is naturally sweet. Thanks to the pectin contained in the peel, there is no need to add Fruttapec or similar: in less than an hour you will obtain an apple compote (this is the correct name given the absence of added sugars) that is nothing short of perfect.

Being without added sugars , apple jam is much less caloric and therefore also suitable for those who have diabetes problems. The important thing is not to exceed because without added sugars does not mean without sugars since fruit alone contains them. So let's see how to prepare it and some suggestions on how to flavor it.

How to prepare the sugar-free apple jam recipe

  1. First wash the apples , core them and cut them into cubes. We advise you to leave the peel of at least one or two apples because the pectin contained in it thickens the jam without having to add gelatin.
  2. Transfer them to a pan with the lemon juice and cook for about 45 minutes or until they have turned into a sort of puree. For a more homogeneous consistency, blend them with the immersion blender.
  3. Put everything back on the heat for 10 minutes and proceed with the saucer test .
  4. Once cooked, transfer the jam into sterilized jars , close with a new lid and place upside down so that the vacuum is naturally formed once cooled.

Here are some extra tips for having perfect sugar-free apple jam:

  • choose ripe and sweet apples , such as Golden Delicious or Fuji;
  • do not omit the lemon because it helps maintain the color of the apples and thicken the jam;
  • cinnamon, ginger or cloves can be added during cooking to flavor the jam;
  • to gradually get used to sugar-free products you can sweeten the jam with stevia, erythritol or a syrup (maple, rice, agave).

Conservation

Apple jam without added sugar will keep in the pantry for up to a year. Once opened, it should be placed in the refrigerator and consumed within a few days.
