Sugar-free plum jam

The homemade sugar-free plum jam recipe is perfect for anyone who is on a diet or loves a light breakfast.

If the traditional plum jam recipe is too caloric for your tastes, here's the solution: let's make a sugar-free plum jam, lighter but equally tasty. In this homemade jam, we are going to replace the sugar – which is usually in a 1:2 ratio – with fruit, to be precise with an apple. That's right: in the classic recipe the sugar acts as a thickener, while in this variant it will be the pectin contained in the apple peel that helps it reach the right consistency. Lemon, on the other hand, prevents the oxidation of fruit and helps prolong its shelf life.

The important thing, when preparing sugar-free jams, is to choose fresh, seasonal fruit that is well ripe so that it already has a good sugar content. We prepared it with plums but you can also use plums or yellow plums: it will always be excellent!

How to make light plum jam

  1. To prepare this jam, start by carefully washing the plums , dry them, remove the stones and cut them into cubes.
  2. Also wash the apple and cut it into cubes without peeling it. Remove only the core.
  3. Transfer all the fruit cut into pieces into a large pot and sprinkle with the juice and zest of a lemon.
  4. Cook over low heat for approximately 40 minutes, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon and checking that it does not burn.
  5. Blend with the help of an immersion blender and place on the heat one last time for another 10 minutes. You can also decide to keep your jam in chunks. In all cases, to make sure it is ready, proceed with the saucer test .
  6. Finally, transfer the boiling jam into a sterilized glass jar . Close with the lid and turn upside down so that it forms a vacuum as it cools.

If you want to gradually get used to sugar-free desserts you can add 30 g of stevia to the jam. It will sweeten it while keeping the calorie count low. Furthermore, you can also prepare it with other types of fruit such as strawberries .

Conservation

Sugar-free plum jam will keep in the pantry for up to 6 months. Once opened, it should be placed in the refrigerator and consumed within a week.
