Hard-boiled eggs covered in meat and fried: good scotch eggs!

Scotch eggs

Scotch eggs are a typical product of English cuisine, perfect if you are looking for tasty appetizers to bring to the table.

Despite the name which literally translated means Scotch eggs, it seems that Scotch eggs were born in England . This seems to be the only certain fact because then, there are many who dispute the paternity of the recipe. There are those who say that they were invented in 1738 at the London department store Fortnum & Mason and those who place them in Whitby , Yorkshire, around the nineteenth century.

Regardless of the usual historical disputes, this Scottish appetizer is always prepared in the same way: hardened chicken or quail eggs covered with meat and then fried . As you will know by now, for us what matters is the substance and we are here today to share this tasty English recipe with us.

How to prepare the scotch eggs recipe

  1. First, boil the eggs, starting with cold water, allowing 4 minutes after they boil. Then drain them and let them cool in a bowl filled with cold water, then peel them and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine the minced meat and the sausages without the casing. Season with salt and season with nutmeg and worchester sauce.
  3. Divide the meat into four equal portions and spread each one on a square of cling film , pressing well.
  4. Place the egg in the center and then close using the cling film and making sure that the meat covers the egg well. If you want, you can leave them to compact in the refrigerator for half an hour or proceed as per the recipe.
  5. Dip the scotch eggs first in the flour, then in the lightly salted beaten eggs and finally in the breadcrumbs.
  6. Fry them in plenty of seed oil until they are golden and crispy, then drain them with a slotted spoon and pass them on absorbent paper. Serve them piping hot.

There are so many delicious recipes, but few are as good as this one. However, we advise you to also try the fried stuffed mozzarella , since you have heated the oil, why waste it?

Conservation

It would be best to consume freshly made scotch eggs, however if you have leftovers you can keep them in the refrigerator for a couple of days and reheat them in the oven before consuming them.
