This dessert is very simple to make at home. It can be prepared in a short time, both with and without an ice cream maker . Furthermore, the list of ingredients is very short and starts with the usual milk, sugar and cream. The peculiarity of this ice cream is the addition of ricotta, which is also the main ingredient of the original Sicilian cassata . If you want to recall the true taste of this dessert, use sheep's ricotta – otherwise, even cow's milk ricotta would be fine. Another thing that cannot be missing are the candied fruit, a true symbol of this dessert, making it very colourful. What else is missing? If you want to add even more flavor to everything, you can include chocolate chips. We are sure that this dessert will win you over immediately at the first taste!

Preparation of the recipe for Sicilian cassata ice cream

  1. Before starting, focus on the candied fruit and, if you want to include them, also the chocolate chips.
  2. Take a sheet of aluminum foil and spread candied fruit and drops on it, spacing the various pieces.
  3. Place them in the freezer , leaving them for at least 15 minutes; subsequently, it will be easier for them not to stick together after mixing them into the ice cream.
  4. To prepare your dessert, take a bowl and pour in the ricotta.
  5. Add the sugar and mix.
  6. Then, also pour in the milk and cream. Mix the mixture vigorously; for convenience, you can also use an immersion blender or electric whisk.
  7. When you obtain a creamy and homogeneous mixture, you can add the candied fruit and, if you want, the chocolate chips.
  8. Transfer the ice cream into a container, cover with foil and place it in the freezer for at least 4-5 hours ; during this time, mix it every 30 minutes or so (preferably with an electric whisk).

How to make cassata ice cream with an ice cream maker

If you have an ice cream maker available, you can prepare this dessert more easily and in less time. Once you have the mixture, transfer it immediately to the ice cream maker. Turn it on and leave to stir for 30-40 minutes . When finished, it will be ready.

Conservation

Sicilian cassata ice cream is a really good and unmissable dessert, which brings all the fresh taste of Sicily to the table. You can keep it in the freezer for several days.
