Let’s talk about intestinal candida, an annoying and uncommon infection, let’s see how it manifests itself and what you need to know.

Intestinal candida is a disorder that, as the name suggests, involves the intestine and is caused by Candida. It is, in fact, an infection caused by a fungus, in most cases Candida albicans . Let’s see what are the symptoms of intestinal candida, what you need to know about the infection and the possible remedies.

Intestinal candida: contagion and symptoms

Let’s start by saying that this infection affects regardless of sex and can therefore occur in both women and men. A higher incidence may be recorded in those with immune system deficiencies, for example patients who are undergoing certain therapies. Other factors such as hormonal changes and stress are also among the conditions that can favor the reduction of immune defenses and therefore predispose to infection.

The yeasts responsible for the infection, especially Candida albicans , are part of the bacterial flora of many people. However, when we see an increase in these microorganisms, they transform from being harmless or even beneficial to being pathological. Uncontrolled development of these microorganisms can often lead to vaginal candida, but other mucous membranes can also be affected, for example in the case of oral candidiasis . When the intestines are affected, there is usually no transmission from diseased to healthy. Common symptoms of this infection include bloating, bloating and abdominal pain, constipation alternating with periods of diarrhea and weight loss. If the infection is not treated, it can lead to inflammation of the intestine and therefore colitis and enteritis. Let’s see how the diagnosis of the disorder is made and how to treat intestinal candida.

Intestinal Candida: Remedies and Diagnosis

As we have seen, the symptoms of this infection are quite generic, so before a specific treatment, the correct diagnosis must be made. To be able to diagnose the presence of this fungus, it is possible to resort to coproculture, or the examination of the feces, or in other cases to colonoscopy. The therapy involves the use of drugs to combat the fungus, the so-called specific antifungals based on active ingredients such as fluconazole and itraconazole.
