doctor hand plate

What are autoimmune rheumatic diseases? These are more or less known pathologies, which involve the musculoskeletal system.

Still partially unknown, autoimmune rheumatic diseases are pathologies that affect and involve the musculoskeletal system . From mixed connective tissue disease to Sjögren's syndrome, passing through systemic sclerosis: let's see the list, symptoms and treatment.

Autoimmune rheumatic diseases: list and characteristics

Autoimmune rheumatic diseases, like all other diseases that fall into the autoimmune category, have in common a sort of malfunction of the immune system . Autoimmunity, in fact, is a reaction of the body's defense system which, not recognizing the cells and tissues of which the body is made up as its own, attacks them. When it comes to rheumatic diseases, the list is as follows:

  • autoimmune myositis;
  • eosinophilic fasciitis;
  • mixed connectivitis;
  • relapsing polychondritis;
  • Sjögren's syndrome;
  • scleroderma;
  • vasculitis;
  • systemic lupus erythematosus;
  • systemic sclerosis.

To these rheumatological diseases must be added those that are defined as immune- mediated , namely: rheumatoid arthritis , spondyloarthropathies and their variants. These are pathologies that are characterized by an inflammatory process that sees a dysregulation of the immune system. Again, therefore, the body's defense system does not function properly.

Rheumatic diseases: symptoms

Considering that autoimmune rheumatic diseases are different, the symptoms differ according to the pathology to which they belong. Almost all the patients who suffer from it, however, seem destined to develop arteriosclerosis . As for the cure, there is no universal one. Furthermore, we cannot speak of definitive healing, but only of treatment that allows you to live in dignity despite the problem.

It is good to underline that these are important diseases, which is why it is necessary to rely on a specialist and follow both his recommendations and the prescribed therapy to the letter.
