Baked mullets are quick and simple to make, perfect if you want to bring a delicious second course of fish to the table.

Do you want a simple, tasty and easy to prepare fish-based dish? Then you can't not try these succulent baked mullets! This recipe is perfect if you have to prepare a dish for a dinner with friends or family, but you don't have much time to spend behind the stove.

How to cook baked mullet with lemon

  1. Take your fish and rinse them under running water, then using a kitchen knife, make an incision on the belly and remove all the innards. Finally, remove all scales from the surface, remove the eyes and cut the fins with scissors.
  2. At this point , rinse the mullets again and dry them with kitchen paper. Take a baking dish lined with parchment paper and grease it with extra virgin olive oil. Add the mullet and the chopped aromatic herbs , the lemon, the coarse salt and the pepper. Finish with the garlic cloves and a drizzle of oil.
  3. Bake the mullet fillets in the oven at a temperature of 200 °C for about twenty minutes, and once ready, serve them hot, accompanying them with the side dish you like best. Enjoy your meal!

Baked red mullets au gratin

If you liked this dish and want to try another variant, here are the mullet fillets au gratin! They are a very simple variation that will make the fish even more delicious under the teeth. For the ingredients you can use the same (adding only the breadcrumbs ) but let's see the preparation right away!

  1. Start by cleaning the fish : rinse the mullets and cut the belly to extract the innards, then wash them again to remove any residues . Finally, with the help of scissors, cut off the fins.
  2. Prepare all the ingredients for the breading : mix the breadcrumbs with aromatic herbs, salt and pepper, then brush the fish with oil and make all your mince adhere well on both sides
  3. Go into the oven, placing the slices of lemon and sprinkling the fish with a drizzle of oil, and cook for around twenty minutes at 180°C. Your baked mullets with breadcrumbs are ready!

This dish, even in its au gratin version, should be eaten when the fish has just come out of the oven . In case you have some left over, you can try to keep the cooked mullets for a maximum of 1 day in the refrigerator, inside a container with an airtight lid. We do not recommend freezing.
