Cauliflower flan

Cauliflower flan is a rich and inviting dish, which makes your mouth water just by smelling it.

Today we are preparing a wonderful cauliflower flan, a very simple and very tasty recipe if you want to bring a rustic and rich dish to the table. This preparation can be flavored with many different ingredients, which are added to the basic ingredients: cauliflower, bechamel, eggs and cheese .

Today we decided to include cooked ham , but you can also opt for other cold cuts, or try olives, capers or even tuna. Follow the basic recipe and make any delicious changes you like!

Preparing the baked cauliflower flan recipe

  1. First of all, start with the cauliflower, wash it carefully and cut the florets.
  2. At this point, steam cook them for about 10-15 minutes or boil them in boiling water for about 5-10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix the eggs with the homemade bechamel and prepare the cauliflower by mashing it with a fork.
  4. Mix the coarse cauliflower cream with the béchamel and egg mixture, salt, pepper and a little grated cheese.
  5. Butter a baking dish and fill it, then finish with a sprinkling of cheese and cook at a temperature of 180°C for about half an hour . When a crust has formed on the surface, your format will be ready to bring to the table.
  6. Let it cool slightly and serve it. Enjoy your meal!

The variations of cauliflower flan and some differences

You can enrich your recipe for this cauliflower timbale in many ways, for example we recommend adding a few cubes of cooked ham to the mixture to make it even more delicious, or adding some well-drained mozzarella inside so as to have a gooey surprise with every bite. Or you can prepare a light cauliflower flan without bechamel, you just have to omit it and proceed with the recipe without any further problems. The taste will be less rounded and greedy, but it is made especially for those who want to keep their figure under control without giving up this dish.

Then there is also the variant of cauliflower flan with potatoes, substantial and good. All you have to do is boil 2-3 potatoes in water for about 20-30 minutes or until you can pierce them easily with a fork. At this point, peel them, let them cool and mix them with the mashed cauliflowers and the rest of the ingredients.

Lastly, many also call this dish cauliflower pie, as it is in fact the same dish. You don't have to add flour to the recipe but you can always customize it with different aromas and flavors than usual (for example, adding a little sausage crumbs toasted in a pan is also great).

storage

We recommend consuming this easy recipe within 1-2 days of making and cooking it. Store the dish in the fridge, well covered with cling film, and heat it in the oven for a few minutes if necessary. We do not recommend freezing in the freezer.
