Pan-fried peppers are a typical Neapolitan side dish . In fact, it is here that this tasty and rich dish has its roots and then spread to the rest of Italy with the name of peperonata . The differences between these two dishes are in fact minimal, however they tend to keep different names.

If you are wondering how to fry peppers, since this preparation is quite unusual, you are in the right place. In fact, to prepare this recipe, a few simple ingredients will be sufficient in addition to the peppers, such as capers, garlic and seed oil for frying.

How to prepare fried peppers recipe

  1. Wash the peppers well under running water, then dry them with kitchen paper.
  2. Cut them in half in order to remove the stem, the seeds and the internal white filaments, then cut them into pieces about a couple of centimeters large.
  3. In a rather large frying pan, heat the seed oil and when it is hot, add the garlic clove and brown it.
  4. When it is well browned it means that the oil will also be flavored. Remove it and add the peppers , stirring occasionally so that they are browned on all sides.
  5. Desalt the capers , rinse them under running water and add them to the peppers. Continue cooking for another 15 minutes until the peppers are tender.
  6. Finally, adjust the salt and serve. Pan-fried peppers can be enjoyed both hot and cold.

Some versions of fried peppers include the addition of black olives during cooking. You can choose the version you prefer, more or less rich according to your tastes.

Fried peppers are excellent served as a side dish to both meat and fish dishes. Try them, for example, with baked red mullet !

storage

Not being battered or breaded, these peppers can be kept for about 2 days in the refrigerator, inside a container with an airtight lid. We do not recommend freezing in the freezer.
