Goodbye dye! Here’s how to cover white hair naturally

Grey hair

Chemical dye is the fastest and most effective method of coloring hair, but it is unhealthy. We see getting a good result even in a natural way.

White hair is a cross for many people, especially when it starts appearing at a young age. Covering them with a chemical dye is the quickest and most effective solution, but not the healthiest.
Most of the dyes, in fact, contain harmful substances and which in the long run damage the hair and the scalp . All without counting the possible allergic reactions that should never be underestimated. The best choice to make is therefore to cover white hair with natural products and still able to offer excellent results.

How to cover gray hair with henna: the remedies for each color

An excellent alternative to cover white hair without damaging it is henna. It is in fact a natural solution which, in addition to hiding the first gray hairs, makes them more beautiful and shiny, guaranteeing better health. To obtain a unique result, however, you need to know how to move and choose the right color.
Although on the market there are brown, blond, black and red henna, in fact, the only true natural henna is the one made up of Lawsonia inermis , a herb that dyes red. By adding other dyeing herbs to Lawsonia, such as Indigo and Katam , it is possible to obtain various shades of brown and black. With Cassia , called neutral henna, on the other hand, you get warm golden reflections.

But be careful: with henna it is never possible to lighten the hair ! This means that white hair will always be a slightly lighter color than the rest of the hair. For example, using only Lawsonia on a brown base, white hair will first turn orange and then (with subsequent applications) red, while the others will turn auburn. Indigo and Katam, on the other hand, used alone make gray or blond hair respectively blue and violet, while they only give a slight reflection to dark hair. Cassia does not color dark hair , while it makes gray hair blonde and intensifies the golden reflection of blonde hair.

To get a chestnut, Lawsonia must be mixed with Indigo and/or Katam . The more Indigo and Katam you add to the mix, the darker and more blackish the color will be. To avoid getting an unwelcome color, the advice is therefore to first test on small hidden locks.
Finally, it may be useful to know that henna can also be used only on white hair in order to fine-tune touch-ups. By doing so, it will be possible to act even in an emergency and when there is no time to wait to "color" the entire hair.

How to prepare henna to cover gray hair

To prepare henna in the correct way it is important to mix the chosen powder (or mix of powders) and slowly add hot water, stirring until a creamy batter is obtained.
Once this is done, the cream obtained will rest for a while and then applied to the hair or regrowth . If you use your hands it is very important to wear gloves first in order to protect them from the colour.
Once done, just cover your hair with transparent film and leave the henna on for about an hour. After this time you can rinse it all off and proceed by washing your hair.

While henna can be applied to dirty hair, many argue that it works best on clean hair. In this case , you can wash your hair first , pat it dry, apply it and once the time has elapsed, rinse your hair carefully. Once done, just proceed with the styling. White hair will immediately appear darker. All in a natural way and without health risks.

Of course, henna can also cause allergic reactions . Before applying it, therefore, it is advisable to put a little on an area of skin such as the inside of the wrist. In this way, any reactions will be immediately evident and without health risks.
