Green beans with tomato are the perfect recipe if you are looking for a spring side dish with few ingredients.

Among the typical spring vegetables, green beans stand out. Simple to grow even in the garden, they are perfect for making tasty recipes ranging from starters to side dishes . Among the simplest and tastiest we remember green beans with tomato, excellent to accompany meat but also cheeses.

Preparing green beans stewed in tomato is really simple. In fact, you will have to blanch the green beans and then sauté them in the pan with a light tomato sauce. Clearly the best is to use fresh green beans or at most frozen ones but if you want you can opt for canned ones which will simply be sautéed in the pan with the sauce as they are already cooked.

How to prepare the green beans with tomato recipe

  1. First clean the green beans by removing the ends and filament. Then rinse them under running water and drain them well.
  2. Bring a large pot full of salted water to the boil and cook the green beans for 15 minutes .
  3. In the meantime, heat a drizzle of oil in a pan with the garlic clove and chilli pepper. Add the tomato puree and season with salt. Cook for 15 minutes over medium heat.
  4. Once the green beans are ready, drain them well and sauté them in the pan with the sauce for another 5 minutes. Serve them piping hot.

In addition to tomato puree, you can also use fine pulp to have a more rustic sauce. Green light also for aromatic herbs : basil and oregano go perfectly with green beans. Furthermore, if you are looking for another way to cook green beans we recommend Genoese meatloaf : it is delicious!
