The origin of Mai Tai

Mai Tai is a drink whose name recalls the Tahitian term Maita'i which means good , even if the name of the cocktail is spelled differently.

The invention of this cocktail dates back to the Trader Vic's restaurant in Oakland, California , in 1944. According to others, however, the birth of the cocktail dates back to 11 years in the first place and in another place, the Don the Beachcomber . It is important to note that the recipes of the two locales are different.

The Tiki cocktail has become a symbol of the Tiki era , and has undergone many variations and reinterpretations over the years. Recently, much research has tried to reconstruct its history and original recipe, which has varied over time depending on the types of rum available on the market at the time. In the 1970s , Trader Vic published a version of the original Mai Tai recipe, in which he referred to the “light rum” and “dark rum” mentioned above as Jamaican amber rum and Martinican amber rum.
