Here are 5 delicious vegan recipes tried for you with smoked tofu, from vegan carbonara to kebab via skewers.
When it comes to tofu, many turn up their noses. I imagine that driven by the definition of vegetable cheese or soy cheese , you have bought it and tasted it like this, just as you would a piece of Parmesan, immediately discovering that it has nothing to do with cheese. Smoked tofu is certainly no exception, it doesn't look like scamorza to put it simply, however it is perfect for the preparation of many recipes and those who follow a vegan diet know it well.
Its smoky taste helps to make it more palatable even without excessive processing. Always choose brands that use natural smoking and not just flavorings to give the characteristic flavor. Let's find out together 5 recipes with smoked tofu that are worth trying.
Smoked tofu: 5 recipes to try
1- Vegan Carbonara . The first and simplest recipe worth trying is carbonara. Following a vegan diet is often not easy, especially if you can't resist traditional dishes. That's why smoked tofu is perfect for recreating the flavor of bacon. All you have to do is sauté the tofu in a pan with oil and minced shallots. Then add the vegetable cream, a pinch of turmeric and one of smoked paprika to give color and flavour. When the pasta is cooked, drain it in the sauce and complete with plenty of grated pepper.
2- Vegan amatriciana. Also in this case the smoky flavor of tofu is perfect to replace that of bacon. The rest of the preparation remains unchanged: prepare a sautéed oil and onion, brown the tofu, add the tomato pulp and let it reduce. Use the sauce to dress pasta.
3- Grill Smoked Tofu . A perfect second course to serve with a green salad, grilled tofu is really simple and quick to prepare. Heat a drizzle of seed oil in a non-stick pan, then brown the tofu until it is golden brown on both sides. Pour in the soy sauce and let it caramelize for a few seconds. Serve hot, decorating as desired with a few sesame seeds.
4- Baked Smoked Tofu Skewers . Simple and delicious, the vegetable and tofu skewers are prepared on the fly. Cut the courgettes, aubergines and peppers into chunks and thread them onto the skewers, alternating them with cubes of tofu. Drizzle with a drizzle of oil and aromatic herbs of Provence and bake at 180°C for 30 minutes. Serve hot.
5- Piadina with smoked tofu and salad . Similar to doner kebab, this recipe is a real treat. Slice the smoked tofu and heat it in a pan without adding oil, to make it crunchy. You can add a pinch of kebab spice if you like. Then stuff your wraps with salad, tomatoes, onion and smoked tofu. For an extra touch of flavor, complete with egg-free mayonnaise , to which you can add garlic paste.
