How to make candied oranges

  1. First of all we have to obtain the peels from organic oranges (to obtain 300 g it will take about 1.5 / 2 kg). Take the oranges and cut them into wedges . At this point, with a spoon or a knife, remove the pulp so as to obtain only the peel.
  2. So take a knife and cut the peels to obtain strips of about half a centimeter. Some like the cubes shape more, choose the one you like best!
  3. Now, once you have your peels in strips, put them to soak in cold water for at least one night.
  4. The next day, rinse them and boil them in a saucepan with hot water. It will take about 7 minutes to make them soften sufficiently and eliminate the bitter taste of the peel, once this time is over, drain and let them cool. If the bitterness is still predominant, proceed with a second (or even a third) boiling.
  5. Now is the time to prepare our candied orange peel: put the peels, sugar and water in a saucepan and put on low heat.
  6. Let it go over low heat, stirring occasionally for about 1 hour or in any case until the syrup is first formed and then it has not dried enough leaving the shiny and beautiful caramelized rinds.
  7. When they are ready, remove them from the pot and let them dry on a clean cloth. Store the oranges in a glass jar in a cool, dry place.
  8. Your candied peel is ready, enjoy your meal!

The non-boiling variant of candied orange peel

If you want to avoid consuming gas and water to boil (or boil) the orange peels, we advise you to soak the peels in a cool and dry place for at least 5-6 days , changing the water often (even once a day). . This step will allow you to eliminate the bitterness without boiling, but it all depends on your oranges! If they are still not to your liking you can try leaving them to soak for a few more hours or proceed with a single boiling in the pot.
